HOUSE OF HADES by Rick Riordan

Blogger: Smitty

I find Greek mythology very interesting to me because it’s so spread out because instead of one person managing everything there is twelve ‘major’ gods, and countless others some even say hundreds, some say thousands we may never know. In this book the most influential god surprisingly is the god of the pit Tartarus himself. Mostly due in part to the fact he tries to kill Percy and Annabeth.
The reason he tries to kill them is because when they retrieve the statue (spoiler from the last book) the floor gives out and spills them into Tartarus. The deepest and the darkest pit in the underworld where the immortals the gods don’t like and the monsters, are sent when they die. Although the monsters get reborn they are not able to escape. It’s sort of like a Fort Knox for the gods denying anybody who attempts to get out.
Coach Hedge the satyr assigned to the quest, and his wife (spoiler) Mellie the wind nymph, are having a baby and she is at Camp Half-blood which is about to be attacked by the Romans and possibly getting her killed. While he is halfway across the world and unable to help what will he do? While I love reading science books I found this very interesting because of the different perspectives.

THE SIGHT by David Clement-Davies

The Sight is a fast paced adventure book about a family of wolves that is prophesized to save all of animal-kind.  The main character Larka, a white she-wolf, is fighting for her life in an epic battle for the good of the forest.  Throughout the book you walk with Larka and her family throughout their struggles.

I thought The Sight was a really good read; if you’re an animal lover you should enjoy this book.  The Sight actually has a sequel called “Fell” which is about Larka’s brother whose name is also Fell.  The Sight was definitely one of those books that you can’t put down; it drew me in from the first page.  This book I feel is especially good to read if you like plot-twists.  I would highly recommend this book.  The author David Clement-Davies does a lot of books with animals as main characters, I personally think this is awesome and if you like that in a book you should check out other books by this author too.

I loved this book. At first I wasn’t interested in it but then I gave it a chance and once I did I was hooked on it. The book is about a series of weather events and all these teens and children have to survive in a mall. The main character Dean Is a little scrawny kid. I also love how the book is in his words. He tells you all of his opinions. He tells you how he feels about the other kids. From the other books I have read this one makes me want to keep reading ,others I can stop, but not this one.

The book follows a young girl Hannah Baker who committed suicide. The narrator, Clay Jensen, received tapes in the mail from a fellow classmate. There are a total of 7 tapes and 13 stories in which everyone that gets the tapes has something to do with her death. Each story has a person and their involvement in her life. As Clay listens to the tapes he wonder what his part has to do with all of this. He just knew Hannah as a really cute girl he wish he would of gotten better to know, or as he says in the story. Find out the reasons of why Hannah Baker, an average teenage girl, took her own life.

SHIVER by Maggie Stiefvater

Grace has been watching the wolves from a distance from her house since she was little. Wolves attacked her when she was little. But by a miracle she woke up on the edge of the woods alive. She remembered seeing those eyes, those yellow eyes. Grace couldn’t stop thinking about that wolf. She meets the wolf as a human, Sam, when hunters shot him. He was badly injured and had to be taken to the hospital. But when they got to the hospital, he was healed completely. This book is about their relationship with each other.
This book is a good romantic and adventure book. I love, love, love this series. You should definitely read this book. I will be writing a blog about the next book. It has three books in it, Shiver, Linger, and Forever.

THE LIFE OF PI by Yann Martel

I read the book, The Life of Pi, sometime back in June—and I soon won’t forget it! This book was very captivating; if you’ve ever read Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell, and enjoyed it, this book may be for you.
The boy, Pi, lives in India, with his father, mother, and brother. The beginning tells us of his life, seemingly normal, before we find out that he and his family live in a zoo. Pi grows interested in religion, and he becomes almost like a philosopher. Everything in his life is normal—until one day, his family decides to pack up and move. Upon the boat that will take them to America, something goes horribly wrong.
I would suggest that more mature and advanced readers read this book, as it does have vocabulary in it that some may find hard to understand, and it can be a pretty slow read. Also, as you may know, The Life of Pi was made into a movie, so cracking open the spine for a scan wouldn’t hurt, right?

MATCHED by Ally Condie

Blogger: Deviyana

The book Matched is about Cassia, who lives in a world where all relationships and jobs are chosen by the government based on your personality, likes, looks, and desires. Though people are generally happy with their match, Cassia questions the system after she is almost matched with someone who should not even be in the system. She wonders what happens to the ones that aren’t allowed to be matched or have deformities of any kind.
Cassia finds the boy who the system originally matched her to and some of her questions are starting to get answered. As the story progresses Cassia realizes her way of life is more fragile than she would like to admit.
Matched is the first book in this trilogy. Crossed is the second, with Reached as the third. I recommend this book to those who enjoy futuristic like books. This book is almost like the series Uglies by Scott Westerfield. So, just sit back and open up Matched and fall in love.

The Mark Of Athena BY RICK RIORDAN

Book title:
The Mark Of Athena
BLOG Author: SMITTY

This book is very interesting due to the fact it goes by 4 different peoples perspective of a certain portion of the book. The four are Percy Jackson; son of Poseidon, Annabeth Chase; daughter of Athena, Leo Valdez; son of Hephaestus, and last but definitely not least Piper McLean; daughter of Aphrodite. So it’s never really from one thought process it’s from four different one. Near the beginning of the book Leo gets possessed by an eidolon (a possessing spirit) in turn gaining Camp
Half-blood yet another enemy.
This is the first of the five books I know of that is spanning both Greek and Roman aspects and people. Because Juno takes Jason Grace praetor of Camp Jupiter from his camp, at the same time Percy Jackson one of the most respected people at Camp Half-blood is abducted by Hera (Juno’s Greek side). Percy and Jason are then switched and Jason goes to Camp Half-blood and in turn Percy goes to Camp Jupiter.
I like this book because I find Greek mythology fascinating, because instead of one god controlling everything, there is one god for almost every thing known. Sort of like a checks and balances system but it works better than our
